Heart Blog

Mirror, Mirror, on the wall..who is the fairest of them all?

You have to be careful what you ask for, because when truth hits you…it can hurt and shock you at the same time. Such was the case a few days ago when God Revealed to me my heart in an instance I was completely unaware. The initial pain of the truth broke me, but I truly believe that walking in deception of who I was and where I stood with God would have been far more agonizing in the long run. I honestly had the impression that if God could just heal this hurt here, or bandage my wound over there that I would be living life whole…

Looking back, it’s preposterous, absurd, even crazy to think that only part of me needed God and the rest of me was well…fine. God has no intention to FIX anything. Jesus wants to give us a completely new heart!!!

Yet, the reality is that we get trapped into pursuing the image of perfection and comparing ourselves to others, that we miss understanding the heartbeat of God. We are blinded; deceived into believing that because we succeed in life, we also succeed in God. We cannot get the two mixed up.

The Word of God says in Jeremiah 17:9-10, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.” In other words, we were born into sin with a broken heart and to live a life pleasing to God requires a heart transformation.

This truth is overwhelming. Many of us in this moment could be walking in deception because everything on the outside seems like it’s working fine. However, God searches our heart and knows when our actions, motives, and behaviors are not in line with righteousness. I challenge you all to ask God to REVEAL your true heart to you and take the blinders off. Rarely do we seek for a heart change because we live in an Instant Gratification culture. But, as Believers, our focus should be Eternal Gratification. In the end our hearts is all that matters. It’s all that God wants.

The choice is ours. God’s love is so amazing that He doesn’t just show you your broken heart and leave you there without a solution to offer. He is the solution. Jesus is our Great Physician and He is willing to give us a heart transplant! “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36:26). Just like any surgery, the recovery doesn’t stop there.

The heart transplant is immediate, but the mind transformation is progressive. ~ JB

It is so imperative that we guard and protect our hearts. (Proverbs 4:23) It is our most valuable resource because from it flows the wellspring of life. Especially as leaders, we must be gatekeepers to what flows in our heart. It maintains our balance and gives us harmony with ourselves and everyone we come in contact with. Our new hearts has so much power to influence and draw others to the Lord if we nourish and protect the environment that it is in. You want to impress God? Guard your heart and nourish it in Christ centered living.

A heart that God puts in us simply hungers and thirsts for Him. How does one stay pure and guard their heart? Simply by obeying and meditating on the Word of God. As I am writing this, I not only challenge you, but also challenge myself to get deeper into the Word of God. Allow it to penetrate deep into your soul and take root in your heart. The Word has the power to wash us clean and renew our minds so that we have the heartbeat of God. Remember, it’s all about the heart. A heart that is more like His can change the world! Be Blessed! Be Revealed!
